This single document contains both parts: Part I is the main agreement for dogs, and Part II is the addendum for cats, which supplements and forms part of the main agreement. An owner boarding a dog completes Part I; an owner boarding a cat completes Part I and Part II.

Daycare Services

Doggie daycare is a same-day service. Dogs attending daycare may receive supervised care, play and socialization opportunities, exercise, and enrichment appropriate to the Facility's program and the Dog's individual needs. Daycare does not include overnight boarding unless overnight boarding is separately reserved and accepted by the Facility.

The Facility does not guarantee a specific amount of play, exercise, socialization, or individual attention. The Facility may modify activities, separate Dogs, or restrict participation when reasonably necessary for safety, weather, staffing, health, behavior, or the Dog's individual needs.

4. Health, Vaccinations, and Preventatives

Owner represents and warrants that each Dog is in good health, is free of fleas, ticks, lice, and external parasites, and has not been exposed to a contagious disease during the 30 days before drop-off. Owner must provide proof of all required vaccinations and preventatives before drop-off.

Failure to provide required proof may result in refusal, postponement, limitation, or termination of services. The Facility may require additional veterinary documentation if a Dog presents symptoms of illness or if vaccination or medical records are incomplete.

Bordetella vaccination reduces, but does not eliminate, the risk of kennel cough, respiratory illness, or other communicable illnesses. Even vaccinated Dogs may become ill or transmit illness. Owner acknowledges and accepts the risk of disease transmission despite reasonable vaccination, sanitation, screening, supervision, and preventative measures.

Owner must promptly notify the Facility if a Dog develops symptoms of illness, including coughing, sneezing, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, fever, discharge, skin conditions, parasites, or other potentially contagious symptoms.

5. Mandatory Virginia Statutory Consumer Notice

The following notice must be provided to the consumer in writing before the consumer delivers the Dog to the Facility. This notice must be presented in 10-point boldfaced type when printed.

NOTICE — The boarding of animals is subject to Article 4 (§ 3.2-6518 et seq.) of Chapter 65 of Title 3.2. If your animal becomes ill or injured while in the custody of the boarding establishment, the boarding establishment shall provide the animal with emergency veterinary treatment for the illness or injury. The consumer shall bear the reasonable and necessary costs of emergency veterinary treatment for any illness or injury occurring while the animal is in the custody of the boarding establishment. The boarding establishment shall bear the expenses of veterinary treatment for any injury the animal sustains while at the boarding establishment if the injury resulted from the establishment's failure, whether accidental or intentional, to provide the care required by § 3.2-6503. Boarding establishments shall not be required to bear the cost of veterinary treatment for injuries resulting from the animal's self-mutilation.

6. Mandatory Virginia Public Notice for Intake Area

Printable sign →

The following notice must be printed in 10-point boldfaced type and posted in a conspicuous location at the Facility's intake area.

PUBLIC NOTICE — THE BOARDING OF ANIMALS BY A BOARDING ESTABLISHMENT IS SUBJECT TO ARTICLE 4 (§ 3.2-6518 et seq.) OF CHAPTER 65 OF TITLE 3.2 OF THE CODE OF VIRGINIA. YOU HAVE SPECIFIC REMEDIES WHEN BOARDING ANIMALS IN THIS OR ANY OTHER BOARDING ESTABLISHMENT IN VIRGINIA. A COPY IS AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY UPON REQUEST AND IS TO BE PRESENTED TO YOU AT THE TIME OF INTAKE IN THE FORM OF A WRITTEN DOCUMENT. IF YOU HAVE A COMPLAINT, YOU MAY CONTACT YOUR LOCAL LAW-ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OR THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.

7. Emergency Veterinary Care

If a Dog becomes ill or injured while in the Facility's custody, the Facility shall provide emergency veterinary treatment for the illness or injury.

Owner authorizes the Facility to contact the Owner's veterinarian or seek immediate treatment from a local veterinarian. The Facility may determine the appropriate provider and urgency of care based on the circumstances, the Dog's condition, veterinary guidance, availability, and the Facility's reasonable judgment.

The consumer bears the reasonable and necessary costs of emergency veterinary treatment for any illness or injury occurring while the Dog is in the Facility's custody. Such costs may include transportation, examinations, diagnostic testing, medications, treatments, hospitalization, aftercare, and related charges. These costs are Owner's sole responsibility and are due upon pick-up. Owner agrees to reimburse the Facility for any amounts advanced by the Facility.

The Facility shall bear the expense of veterinary treatment for any injury the Dog sustains while at the Facility if the injury resulted from the Facility's failure, whether accidental or intentional, to provide the care required by Virginia Code § 3.2-6503, or if the injury resulted from the actions of the Facility. The Facility is not required to bear the cost of treatment for injuries resulting from the Dog's self-mutilation.

The Facility will administer medications according to Owner's written instructions at no additional charge unless otherwise agreed. Owner assumes the risks associated with medication administration as directed, including missed doses, adverse reactions, incorrect or incomplete instructions, and conditions not disclosed by Owner. This provision does not waive any liability that cannot legally be waived.

Veterinarian Information

Veterinary Clinic: [Clinic Name]
Address: [Clinic Address]
Phone: [Clinic Phone]
Last Visit Date: [Date]
Veterinarian: [Veterinarian Name]

Owner authorizes the Facility to communicate with the veterinarian identified above regarding the Dog's care and medical needs.

8. Grooming Services

Grooming services are performed by the Facility's groomers and are subject to availability, the Dog's condition, behavior, coat, health, and ability to tolerate handling.

The Facility does not guarantee a particular grooming result, style, length, appearance, or outcome. Owner acknowledges that matted, tangled, neglected, or heavily soiled coats may require shaving or substantial shortening to protect the Dog's health and permit safe grooming.

Senior Dogs, Dogs with pre-existing skin conditions, Dogs with medical conditions, Dogs with thin or fragile skin, and Dogs with anxiety or behavioral issues may face elevated risks during grooming. Nicks, clipper burn, skin irritation, abrasions, allergic reactions, stress, and other complications are possible, particularly with matted, sensitive, or unhealthy coats. A Dog that resists, struggles, bites, or cannot safely tolerate handling may face an increased risk of injury.

Owner authorizes the Facility to perform grooming that the Facility reasonably determines is necessary or appropriate based on the Dog's coat and condition. Owner accepts the inherent risks of grooming and agrees to hold the Facility harmless from claims arising from those inherent risks, except for injuries caused by the Facility's failure to provide the care required by Virginia Code § 3.2-6503 or caused by the actions of the Facility.

Additional fees may apply for de-matting, shaving, special handling, difficult or resistant Dogs, excessive coat condition, excessive cleaning, or time substantially beyond ordinary grooming time. The Facility may stop or decline grooming if continued grooming would be unsafe.

9. Farm Premises and Inherent Risks

The Facility operates on the premises of Zentenza Farm LLC, an active agricultural operation involving livestock, machinery, equipment, vehicles, uneven terrain, fencing, farm buildings, fields, pathways, chemicals, wildlife, water, and other farm-related hazards. Farms are inherently dangerous environments.

Owners, guests, and their Dogs enter the Farm premises, including farm areas, buildings, fields, pathways, and other areas, at their own risk.

"Released Parties" means Zentenza Farm LLC and General Quarters Boarding LLC, together with their owners, members, officers, employees, agents, representatives, contractors, and affiliates.

To the fullest extent permitted by Virginia law, the Released Parties are not liable for injuries, damages, losses, or deaths to persons or Dogs resulting from:

  1. Farm activities, livestock, animals, machinery, vehicles, or equipment;
  2. Slips, trips, falls, uneven terrain, fencing, or other property conditions;
  3. Encounters with wildlife, insects, plants, water, or other hazards;
  4. Exposure to farm chemicals, allergens, dust, environmental conditions, or agricultural materials; or
  5. Any other act or omission related to the Farm's agricultural operations, except to the extent liability cannot legally be waived.

Nothing in this Agreement waives, releases, limits, or impairs any right or remedy that cannot be waived as a matter of law, including rights of the Facility's employees under the Virginia Workers' Compensation Act. The release does not extend to claims barred from release by Virginia law.

10. Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability

The Facility agrees to exercise due and reasonable care in providing services, including proper feeding, clean and secure housing when boarding, supervised care, and reasonable supervision.

Owner acknowledges that boarding, daycare, walking, transportation, grooming, and farm-based activities involve inherent risks, including:

  1. Injury, illness, or death from interactions with other Dogs;
  2. Disease transmission despite vaccinations, screening, sanitation, and reasonable care;
  3. Escapes, attempted escapes, or loss;
  4. Bites, scratches, falls, collisions, or other animal behavior;
  5. Fire, severe weather, natural disasters, power outages, or other unforeseen events;
  6. Pre-existing conditions, allergies, sensitivities, or medical conditions;
  7. Behavioral issues, fear, anxiety, or aggression not disclosed by Owner; and
  8. Risks associated with the Farm premises and off-premises activities.

To the fullest extent permitted by Virginia law, Owner releases, waives, and discharges the Released Parties from liability, claims, demands, and causes of action arising from or related to the Dog's boarding, daycare, walking, transportation, or grooming services, including claims involving injury, illness, death, escape, loss, or damage to the Dog or property.

Plain-language notice: This Agreement includes a waiver of negligence claims to the extent permitted by Virginia law. It does not waive claims or rights that Virginia law does not permit a party to waive.

Owner agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from third-party claims, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses arising from the Dog's actions, including bites, injuries, property damage, escape, or transmission of illness, except to the extent caused by conduct that cannot legally be released or indemnified.

11. Off-Premises Activities, Walks, and Transportation

Owner authorizes the Facility to take the Dog off the Facility premises for supervised activities, including:

  1. Walks on wooded trails and farm paths;
  2. Pond-side walks;
  3. Supervised outings;
  4. Beach excursions; and
  5. Other supervised exercise or enrichment activities selected or approved by the Facility.

Owner also authorizes the Facility to transport the Dog in a Facility vehicle for these activities at the Facility's discretion and subject to the exercise and enrichment level selected by Owner.

Exercise and enrichment level: ☐ Limited ☐ Moderate ☐ Active ☐ Facility discretion based on Dog's needs and conditions

Owner acknowledges that off-premises activities and transportation carry inherent risks, including traffic, vehicle accidents, wildlife encounters, water, rough terrain, weather, unfamiliar environments, other animals, and escape.

In an emergency, severe weather event, natural disaster, evacuation, facility issue, or other circumstance affecting safety, Owner authorizes the Facility to relocate and transport the Dog to a safe location, including a veterinary clinic, emergency shelter, alternate boarding location, or other appropriate facility. The Facility will notify Owner as soon as practicable.

12. Photography and Video Release

The Facility may photograph or record the Dog during the Dog's stay or participation in Facility activities. Unless Owner selects the opt-out below, Owner authorizes the Facility to use the photographs and videos, without compensation, in the Facility's marketing and promotional materials, including social media, websites, brochures, advertisements, and other business communications.

Owner authorizes the Facility to use the Dog's first name in connection with these materials.

☐ OPT-OUT: Owner declines permission for the Facility to use photographs or videos of the Dog for marketing or promotional purposes.

This authorization does not permit the Facility to publish Owner's name, address, phone number, or other personal information without separate written authorization.

13. Payment Terms

  7. Extensions or additional days: Extensions and additional boarding or daycare days require prior approval and availability.
  8. Collection: The Facility may charge the card on file for amounts due under this section.

15. Abandonment and Lien

A Dog will be considered abandoned if the Dog is not picked up within five days after the scheduled pick-up date and Owner has not contacted the Facility or made arrangements acceptable to the Facility.

The Facility will send written notice by letter and certified mail to Owner at the address provided in this Agreement. Owner is responsible for keeping contact information current and for all charges incurred while the Dog remains in the Facility's care.

Expenses incurred by the Facility become a lien on the Dog. Subject to applicable Virginia law, the Facility has a possessory lien for reasonable charges for the Dog's care, feeding, and maintenance.

Within 10 days of the effective date of the lien, the Facility will deliver written notice of the lien to Owner by certified mail. The notice will identify the Dog, state the amount of charges due, and provide a summary of services rendered.

The Facility may retain possession of the Dog for up to 30 days while charges remain unpaid, unless the charges are paid in full, Owner and the Facility agree in writing to an extension, or a court orders otherwise. Thereafter, the Facility may proceed to enforce and sell the Dog in accordance with Virginia law.

Under Virginia Code § 3.2-6520, if the Dog remains unclaimed for 14 days after the required notice letter has been sent, the Facility may sell the Dog at public or private sale for fair compensation to a person capable of providing care consistent with Virginia law. Sale proceeds will first discharge the lien and related expenses. Any remaining balance will be paid to Owner. If Owner cannot be found within the period required by Virginia law, any remaining balance will be handled as Virginia law requires, including payment to the Literary Fund where applicable.

If no purchaser is found, the Dog may be offered for adoption or humanely euthanized as permitted by Virginia law.

Nothing in this section authorizes the Facility to disregard any statutory notice, waiting period, court process, animal-care requirement, or other legal requirement. Applicable Virginia law controls in the event of any conflict.

Owner agrees to pay all charges, expenses, lien-enforcement costs, sale costs, and reasonable collection costs incurred under this section.

16. Miscellaneous Provisions

The Facility is not required to bear the cost of treatment for injuries resulting from the cat's self-mutilation.

8. Cat-Specific Risks and Care

Cats will be housed in a separate cat area away from dogs. The Owner acknowledges that cats may experience stress-related reactions to boarding, including:

  • Hiding or withdrawal;
  • Reduced appetite or refusal to eat;
  • Vomiting or diarrhea;
  • Litter-box avoidance or inappropriate elimination;
  • Stress-related upper respiratory symptoms;
  • Excessive vocalization;
  • Attempts to escape;
  • Scratching or biting;
  • Over-grooming or other self-mutilation; and
  • Exacerbation of pre-existing medical or behavioral conditions.

The Facility will provide reasonable supervision and will monitor the cat for signs of illness, injury, distress, or abnormal behavior. The Facility will attempt to contact the Owner or emergency contact if a cat stops eating, shows signs of illness or injury, or otherwise requires attention.

The Owner acknowledges that some cats do not adjust well to boarding environments. The Facility may, in its discretion, require veterinary evaluation, modify the cat's care arrangements, separate the cat, or end the stay when reasonably necessary for the cat's welfare or the safety of staff or other animals.

The Facility may refuse or end services for a cat that poses a risk to staff, other animals, or property, or whose care requirements exceed the Facility's reasonable capabilities.

9. Grooming for Cats

Cat grooming will be performed by the Facility's groomers or other personnel designated by the Facility. Grooming results are not guaranteed.

The Owner acknowledges that:

  1. Matted coats may require shaving, a lion cut, or other substantial alteration of the coat;
  2. Sedation is not provided by the Facility;
  3. Senior cats and cats with pre-existing skin, medical, behavioral, or mobility conditions face elevated grooming risks;
  4. Nicks, clipper burn, skin irritation, abrasions, stress reactions, and other minor complications are possible;
  5. A cat may resist handling, scratch, bite, or otherwise react unpredictably during grooming; and
  6. De-matting, extended handling, special handling, or additional grooming time may result in additional fees.

The Owner authorizes the Facility to stop grooming if continued grooming would be unsafe or would create an unreasonable risk of injury or distress.

The Owner accepts the ordinary risks of cat grooming and agrees to hold the Facility harmless from those ordinary risks, except for injuries resulting from the Facility's failure to provide the care required by Virginia Code § 3.2-6503 or from the actions of the Facility. 10. Farm Premises, Assumption of Risk, and Release

The Facility operates on the active premises of Zentenza Farm LLC, an agricultural operation involving livestock, machinery, equipment, uneven terrain, fencing, buildings, pathways, chemicals, wildlife, and other farm-related hazards.

Farms are inherently dangerous environments. The Owner, the Owner's guests, and any person accompanying the Owner or a cat enter the Farm premises at their own risk.

General Quarters Boarding LLC and Zentenza Farm LLC, together with their respective owners, members, managers, employees, agents, contractors, and representatives, are collectively referred to as the "Released Parties."

To the fullest extent permitted by Virginia law, the Owner assumes the risks associated with the Farm and releases, waives, and discharges the Released Parties from claims, demands, losses, damages, injuries, or deaths arising from:

  • Farm activities;
  • Livestock or other animals;
  • Machinery, equipment, buildings, or fencing;
  • Slips, trips, falls, or uneven terrain;
  • Wildlife or other hazards;
  • Farm chemicals, allergens, or environmental conditions; or
  • Any act or omission related to the Farm's operations.

To the fullest extent permitted by Virginia law, the Owner releases, waives, and discharges the Released Parties from liability, claims, demands, and causes of action arising from or related to the cat's boarding, daycare, or grooming, including injury, illness, death, loss, escape, or damage to the cat or other property, including negligence claims.

Plain-language notice: This Addendum includes a waiver and release of negligence claims to the fullest extent permitted by Virginia law. It does not waive claims or remedies that cannot legally be waived.

The Owner agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from third-party claims, damages, costs, and expenses arising from the cat's actions, including scratching, biting, escape, property damage, or injury to another person or animal.

Nothing in this Addendum waives, releases, or limits any right or remedy that cannot be waived as a matter of law, including rights of the Facility's employees under the Virginia Workers' Compensation Act.

11. Photography and Video Release

The Facility may photograph or record the cat during boarding, daycare, grooming, or related activities. The Facility may use photographs and video recordings in its marketing and business materials, including social media, its website, brochures, advertisements, and promotional materials, without compensation to the Owner.

The Owner grants the Facility permission to use the cat's image and likeness for these purposes unless the Owner elects to opt out below.

[ ] OPT OUT: I do not authorize the Facility to use photographs or videos of my cat for marketing or promotional purposes.

The Owner understands that the Facility cannot guarantee that third parties will not independently photograph, record, share, or repost images of the cat.

  7. Charges: Cancellation, no-show, early pick-up, extension, and related charges may be charged to the card on file.

14. Abandonment and Lien

A cat will be considered contractually abandoned if the cat is not picked up within five days after the scheduled pick-up date and the Owner has not contacted the Facility or made written arrangements acceptable to the Facility.

This contractual abandonment designation does not shorten or replace any notice, holding, sale, adoption, euthanasia, or other procedure required by Virginia law.

The Facility will send written notice to the Owner by letter and certified mail using the Owner's last known address. The Owner is responsible for keeping contact information current.

The Owner acknowledges that the Facility may have a possessory lien for reasonable charges for the cat's care, feeding, and maintenance, subject to applicable Virginia law. Expenses incurred by the Facility may become a lien on the cat.

Within 10 days of the effective date of any lien, the Facility may send the Owner written notice of the lien by certified mail. The notice will identify the cat, state the amount of charges due, and provide a summary of services rendered.

Subject to applicable Virginia law, the Facility may retain possession of the cat for up to 30 days while charges remain unpaid, unless the charges are paid in full, the Owner and Facility agree in writing to an extension, or a court orders otherwise.

If the cat remains unclaimed after the required notice and statutory waiting period, the Facility may proceed as Virginia law allows, including by selling the cat at public or private sale for fair compensation to a person capable of providing care consistent with Virginia law.

Sale proceeds will first be applied to the Facility's valid lien and other permitted expenses. Any remaining balance will be paid to the Owner. If the Owner cannot be located within the period required by Virginia law, any remaining balance will be handled as Virginia law requires. If no purchaser is found, the cat may be offered for adoption or humanely euthanized as permitted by law.

The Owner remains responsible for all boarding, daycare, grooming, veterinary, transportation, food, medication, cleaning, notice, collection, and other reasonable charges, together with collection costs and attorney's fees to the extent permitted by law.
